Intro to Pole
Back to Basics
Beginner Pole
New to pole? Start here...
Imagine looking forward to moving your body - no more money flying out of your account to a gym you make last-minute decisions to avoid each week.
We know what you’re thinking: “I don't have the strength/fitness/flexibility or [insert your limiting belief] to start pole fitness.”
You’re right to be curious, though. And you’re definitely in the right place if you’re bored of traditional fitness spaces, or if you’ve been convinced that fitness
just isn’t your thing.
Now imagine yourself a year from now. Gone are the days of failed exercise routines that left you feeling inadequate: through pole, you’re stronger, bendier, and more badass than ever. And it
never felt like a chore. You feel capable and powerful - in body and mind.
You’ve made friends too, and the encouragement in each class leaves you feeling fired up - there’s no more awkwardness lurking at the back of group fitness classes because you’ve finally found a community you feel comfortable in.
That’s the power of pole, and during our 8-week course, we’ll gradually introduce you to the fundamental elements of pole fitness so you can confidently (and safely) take on the rest of your pole journey.

What to Expect
Over 8 weeks, you’ll explore the fundamental elements of pole fitness and dance - the spins, transitions, sits, climbs, and floorwork.
Each session will have a maximum of 8 students, so you’ll experience the support of your fellow first-timers plus personalised feedback from your instructor.
After a thorough warm-up, each hour-long class will start with beginner-friendly conditioning exercises crafted to gradually build your strength and flexibility.
Then you’ll get acquainted with the pole, learning the technique behind stunning shapes and moves. And eventually, you’ll understand how to link moves into short sequences.
To close, you’ll ease through a cool down, and then you can head home awe-struck at what you’ve just achieved.
It doesn’t matter what your starting point is.
Even if you have
no experience. (Like
zero.) Because our knowledgeable instructors will teach you variations of each move so you can progress at a pace that feels right for you.

So many pole goals, so little time, right? Wanting to get the most out of your training, and feeling like something’s missing can overwhelm you. And we don’t want that.
Revisiting the basics is (usually) the cure for pole-related problems, especially if…
- You’ve lost strength after some time off and would rather avoid the crushing disappointment of attempting moves you could easily do in a different era.
- You’re smashing your pole goals, but you’ve forgotten some of the basics while you’ve been busy ticking off new moves.
- You’ve lost the will to live trying to ‘look more flowy’ and freestyle freaks you out.
Back to Basics is a chance to retrace moments in your pole journey. Through detailed breakdowns of the proper techniques behind key pole moves and transitions, you’ll soon know them well enough to add your own stylistic flair.
With the support from your instructor - plus a group of experienced polers with the same dilemma - you can safely rebuild your strength and revisit moves you’re not a fan of. (Without losing hours to your saved posts on Instagram.)
You can book the entire 6-week course or drop in when you have a free hour - we know how busy life gets!

Retrace moments in your pole journey
So you’ve dived into the pole world and you’re back for more? We love to see it!
Rushing your pole journey is the fastest way to get injured or pick up bad habits.
Not if you have solid foundations though.
In beginner pole, you’ll uncover an extensive collection of spins, sits, climbs, and shapes. The conditioning will be a little tougher, and you’ll be challenged to longer sequences from the floor.
Despite your dreams of life upside down, learning to invert and explore trickier moves can be intimidating. But we’ll get to know you over time, so we can give you a motivational nudge on the days you need. And you’ll always be offered a spot as you delve into more complicated moves.
Whether you come to class to decompress from the day or you love to challenge yourself - our beginner classes cover everything you need to steadily build your strength, pick up the skills to take you to the next level, and most importantly…bring out your confidence.

You asked for it, so we launched it.
Stepping up to intermediate is daunting af.
You know the basics well, and to your surprise beginner classes feel easy. You’re even starting to invert now.
But every time you look at #IntermediatePoleCombos on Insta and TikTok you think “There’s no way I’m ready for that”.
Improver Pole is a class where you’ll continue to master the moves you learned as a beginner and combine them with new transitions and shapes, including inversions. With conditioning crafted to help you feel unstoppable in your climbs and inverts, you’ll be ready for your first intermediate class in no time.

Combinations & sequences in the air
Now you’re pole obsessed, you’ll know there’s countless pole moves: the gap between intermediate and advanced is huge. Scarily huge.
We don’t want you turning up to your first advanced class feeling like you’ve missed out on crucial skills.
So, higher intermediate is where you’ll link several intermediate moves together, and perfect the prerequisites of advanced moves, giving you the solid foundation you need to progress.
Your instructor will reveal the techniques you need to make long and complex combos look (and feel) more fluid and smooth. And of course, you won’t leave class without strength and conditioning formulated to help you reach a higher level of strength, flexibility, and control.

Your most powerful pole era
Ready to step into your most powerful pole era yet?
We’re talking bendier shapes, adventurous tricks, and unusual transitions.
Here’s the deal, though - no sugarcoating… Advanced pole is hard work.
We know the struggles of being an advanced poler - from injuries and skill plateaus to burnout or boredom. But we believe you can unearth your potential as a dancer with instructors who guide you to sustainably progress while pushing you to new limits.
This is precisely what to expect in an advanced pole class at Phoenix.
Sure, you’ll be challenged to new and creative moves and combinations. But most importantly, we’ll share the prerequisite knowledge, skills, and encouragement you need to tackle your nemesis and dream moves alike.

Specialist Classes
Combos
Connect the dots
Learning a few moves is one thing, but knowing how to connect them into a flawlessly executed sequence is another.
In this class, Flossie - our resident combo queen - will provide you with impressive combinations to polish, sometimes over two weeks.
Through lightbulb-moment-inducing tips, and plenty of time to finesse your transitions, your camera roll will soon be full of pole videos you’re finally happy with. And you’ll be stepping up your stamina without even noticing!

Splits Stretch
Retrace moments in your pole journey
Nothing beats melting into a stretchy, splitty shape on the pole. (Especially one you thought you couldn’t do a few months ago.)
You might find stretching boring though. And if you don’t, you’ve probably had one of those mid-stretch moments where you question “Should this hurt this much?”
Even if you’re already a bendy babe, maintaining flexibility can be a chore.
Our Thursday evening splits class is open to all levels, and it’s the perfect opportunity to learn how to safely and effectively stretch and strengthen towards your splits. (Or maintain your existing splitty-ness.)
The best part? Stretching is never dull alongside your pole besties and Eben.

Spin Pole
Stunning spin sequences
The feeling of flying through a spin sequence is unmatched.
(Except when you’re spinning dizzyingly fast. Or when the pole stops spinning mid-combo.)
We’ve got you though.
Every Monday, Magda will share the secrets to effortless spin flow: how to use your body to control your spin and time each movement precisely so that gravity is on your side.
Each week, you’ll add a stunning spin sequence to your repertoire, including captivating entrances and exits.

Pole Flow and Sensual Pole
Connect with yourself
There’s something therapeutic about dance.
Don’t just take our word for it, though. Some studies have shown that dance is better than other exercise for improving mental health.
Every Wednesday you can get in your feels alongside Flossie, who will provide you with a short polework sequence to seamlessly link together.
And our ad hoc Sensual Flow classes are your chance to deepen your connection with yourself as you explore styles of dance that exude eroticism and sensuality - either in heels or barefoot.

Heels Choreography and Contemporary Choreography
Embrace the emotive
There are so many styles of pole dance: it’s only right you get to try as many as possible.
Our Friday night choreography classes with Emily alternate every two weeks. For the first two weeks, you’ll be sliding on your favourite boots or sandals to express yourself to a choreography incorporating heels-based polework and floorwork.
During the following two weeks, you can embrace your emotive side with choreography inspired by elements from contemporary dance.

Heels Tricks & Basework
Mesmerising movement
Putting on pole heels for the first time feels like learning to walk again. With the added difficulty of being 7+ inches taller and permanently on your tiptoes. (Or relevé, as we should say.)
Already been to a few heels classes? Then you’ll know that heelwork is a science and an art form. Slicker footwork, longer lines, and captivating twirls and extensions: all of these will revolutionise your heels movement.
In this class, Emily will introduce you to dynamic heels tricks and mesmerising movement pathways to implement at the base of the pole.
By focusing on heels technique, you’ll leave class with more than a few new tricks in your collection. Instead, your heels will feel more like an extension of your body that enables you to kip, clack, glide, and pirouette around the pole.

FAQs
What should I wear?
When you do your first few classes you won't necessarily need to be in shorts and a crop top. We would recommend for a beginners class to bring shorts, but any kind of t-shirt and leggings, sweatpants or tracksuit bottoms will be fine. We will be barefoot so please arrive in whatever you feel most comfortable.
Do I need lots of upper body strength?
No upper body strength is required. Everyone will learn at their own pace and we will help you build your strength over time in order to do the moves which will require more strength
Do I need to be really flexible?
No flexibility is required, but if you are flexible it can compliment pole very well. At the end of each class, we stretch out which will help improve your flexibility, and as you become more advanced we will be able to help you progress by showing you stretches to do in your own time.
I am under 18. Am I still allowed to come to class?
If you are under 18 we will need permission from a parent or guardian, either in person or via email. Not all our instructors are insured to teach students younger than 16 years old.
I am a bigger girl. Can I still learn pole?
Of course, you can! Size is not a problem at all and pole is for people of all shapes and sizes. There are many "pole famous" plus-size polers out there who are paving the way for plus size pole community. Pole is for everyone!
Why can't I moisturise before pole class?
We use our skin to grip the poles and moisturiser makes it slippery - the same applies to oils, fake tans and any other lotions. We recommend that you either wash your hands (the most important part of your body when starting to learn pole) before coming to class or simply don't use moisturiser at all that day. We also ask that all rings and jewellery be removed for class to stop the poles from being scratched.
Does pole dancing hurt?
We won't lie about this as we want you to know what to expect. You are likely to ache after your first class as it is very strenuous on the body, but the great feeling of achievement the next day shows you how hard you've worked. As you progress and start to climb the pole you may have some bruising to the skin which will get easier as your body gets used to the pressure of the pole.
